Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2018 – Opening Night

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2018 - Day 1

It’s that time of the year again!

I love this period of back to back Fashion Weeks happening all over the world, and I love that my city has a thriving fashion industry for local creatives too.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, we gathered at the shiny new Optus Stadium and were treated to a line up of top Australian designers for Opening Night.

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2018 - Day 1

Morrison started the show with delicate ruffles, white polkadots, sheer layers and effortless silhouettes.

There was a lot more colour to this collection (namely yellows and reds) but as you can see from my photograph picks, I looooved the white polkadot, ruffled look.

I am a big fan of Morrison and love their journey and evolution as a label!

What I Wore: Fashion Festival 2018 Opening Night

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2018 - Day 1

I was thrilled to be invited to the Opening Night for the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival!

I’ve been to a few Opening Night Shows in Perth before… and I know there’s a fun tradition to dress GLAM.

Most of my cocktail dresses are nice, but not GLAM enough.

So I dug out a silver sequin dress that I bought from ASOS in 2011! It still looked great!

I paired it with the only silver shoes I had, which looked cool. However, they were cheap and cheerful $30 heels I bought off The Iconic… and boy did I regret wearing them. I was in agony by the end of the night – which made me cranky and spoilt my evening. My toes felt broken as I walked back to my car! So bad for my feet! Never again!

I guess this means I’m on the look out for good quality silver shoes? They are a kind of classic, right?

I wore my old faux fur jacket, bought from a Korean brand.

And a two tone Commes De Garcons pouch.

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2018 - Day 1

I’m with my fashion friend, Sandy, standing in the “flower box” made by Natural Art Flowers, which was such a big hit with all the guests.

It was such a fun night!

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2017 – Runway Show Highlights

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2017 - 33 Poets
(33 Poets Runway, photo by me)

Fashion week fever hit my home town last week and it was so much fun!

The Telstra Perth Fashion Festival was spread out over 2 weeks, with free events in the Perth CBD during the first week and evening runway shows at the Crown Pyramid during the second week.

I am always thrilled to watch fashion shows in Perth, as I’m super proud of all the local creatives involved – the designers, organisers, producers, models, stylists, makeup and hair artists, photographers, managers and more.

I managed to capture a snippet of each show I attended. Here are some of my highlights:

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2017 – Fashion Central Events at Forrest Place

Brought to you by City of Perth

City of Perth Fashion Central TPFF 2017

Hi everyone!

I have some very fun and exciting news — in the next couple of weeks, I’ll be working with the City of Perth to be one of their Official Bloggers for the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival.

I’ll be attending a whole list of shows at Fashion Central (at Forrest Place), updating live on Instragram (@karenlycheng), Instagram Stories and Facebook (@karenchengblog)… and just exploring the city, walking, shopping and eating in between shows.

Hopefully you’ll join me over on my social channels, take a peek at my adventures and be inspired to pop down to check some of it out too!

The festival is split over two weeks:

First Week – Free runway events at Fashion Central (Forrest Place)
Second Week – Ticketed runway events at the Crown Pyramid (Burswood)

If you have never been to a fashion show, you should give it a go!

Take the morning off, come down during your lunch time, or pop down after work.

They’re not as scary and intimidating as yo might think. They are a great way to find out what’s new in the fashion season, get ideas on how to style outfits together, do something fun with your girlfriend (or boyfriend?), get dressed up, see some beautiful creations and support the local creative industry.

So here’s a list of events for the FIRST WEEK at Fashion Central presented by Act-Belong-Commit.

Thursday, 7 September 2017

MYER Fashion Runway – 6.30pm
(Attendance is free, but front row seats are $50)

Apparently there’s going to be a red carpet and sparkling wine! The runway show will showcase collections from Morrison, Alex Perry, Misha Collection and more, with a special appearance by MYER ambassador Kris Smith.

Friday, 8 September 2017

Wesley Quarter Runway – 1pm
(Free Event)

You know how much I love activewear and street style (aka wearing jeans). This show is all about perfecting your street style, activewear and cool urban look with G-Star RAW, Wittner Shoes, Oxford, Lorna Jane and more.

Enex Perth – 5.30pm
(Free Event)

A huge show with a huge variety of styles. Check out the Spring/Summer hotlist from Mimco, Calibre, DECJUBA, Nine West, Gorman and POLITIX.

Culture Kings – 7.30pm
(Free Event)

Get dem beats, street style and ultimate cult trends from around the globe. This should be a fun show, full of energy, music and attitude.

Saturday, 9 September 2017

140 Perth: Forever New and Cotton On – 11am
(Free Event)

I’m such a fan of both these stores! It’s always very cool to see how a stylist puts outfits together for the runway. I’m always surprised how clothes look so much better on a real, moving person – instead of hanging on a rack or on a mannequin.

Chirriger: Aboriginal Runway – 1pm
(Free Event)

This show is a collaboration between Sandra Rivers and local Aboriginal Artist Peter Farmer, creating a fusion of ready-to-wear styles featuring artworks by Farmer.

The Language of Fashion: Multicultural Runway – 3pm

The Perth Fashion Festival celebrated its closing night with an extraordinary and extravagant show – The Art of Fashion – held in the multi-storey foyer of the Art Gallery of WA, no less!
