These days, my go to look is this: a t-shirt with a simple midi skirt.
Can you believe, I used to make my own midi, A-line or bias cut skirts (just like this green skirt!) when I was in high school?!
When I was a teenager, my mum showed me how to draw my own patterns, make neat hems and sew in my own invisible zip. But that was 20 years ago.
If I were to rate my sewing skills NOW, they would be 6/10.
My level of craftsmanship is just “OK”. And I probably wouldn’t wear my own creations!
I often have bursts of inspiration – to make my own clothes. It would be kind of cool right?
But I always get stuck on: Choosing nice fabric.
I can’t seem to find any nice fabric at a reasonable price. All the fabrics (that I like) are $60 per metre, or something ridiculous. I would be terrified of making a mistake. And I wouldn’t want to buy any more fabric than I have to.
Soooo… it’s more economically sound (and a better use of my time) for me to just buy the clothes haha!
This green skirt is from Petal and Pup, but it’s no longer available.
This one is slightly similar but shorter.
You can get something similar on Showpo called the Space Odysses Skirt in other colours too (love the wine colour!).
Do you make your own clothes? Got any tips on where to buy nice fabrics?
Also wearing:
Les Boys Les Girls T-shirt (on sale!)
Isabel Marant Nessah Bag (A new addition to my bag family! Will review soon!)
DVF Moretlle Heels (on sale!)
Oh I really wish I could sew! I recently learned how to take up my dresses properly and I STILL don’t do a great job on that hahaha.

How are you keeping? I hope all is well, as I noticed fewer posts.
I used to get nice affordable silks from Textile Traders until the shops closed.
For upmarket special occasions, it is Fabulous Fabrics in Balcatta. This is a sewist candy store. I wouldn’t part $50/m in a candy store!
For day casual wear, I do quick shop at Lincraft or Spotlight. I often order online for Australian designer close out from The Remnant Warehouse in Sydney. I also use supercheapfabrics.com.au in Melbourne after visiting one of their stores while on holidays. Supercheap has surprises like French laces, cashmere wool, silk and linen. In fact, I have my eye on their batik block print on 100% linen for $14.95/m
I support the local fabric stores ahead of the New York goodies from Elliot Berman and Emma One Sock that I have previously sourced wool and silks.
For reviews on fabric shops, I can recommend patternreview.com where lots of Australia sewist exchange information.
I sew a fair bit of my own clothes, as my motto is Made in Australia or made by me!
