Grana Silk Racerback Trapeze Dress – My Review

30 September 2016

Hey everyone! Remember a few weeks ago I reviewed some Grana silk tops, where I didn’t like one top (I returned it), and I fell in looooove with the other?

Well Grana got in touch with me and sent me a few items on my wishlist (wayhey!).

So I guess you can say I’m being sponsored, but I’m not actually getting paid to say a particular thing. I’m still just sharing my own opinion as usual, about the items that I chose, I just didn’t pay for those items myself.

Also, Grana offered all my readers a 10% discount code; you can be an existing customer or a new customer to use the code, scroll down to the end of this post to grab it.

Grana Silk Racerback Dress

As I mentioned in my previous post, I absolutely loved the Silk Racerback Top that I bought.

It is made of a 100% Silk Crepe de Chine – which is beautiful, soft, slightly velvety, delicate, looked luxurious and had a lovely drape to it. It was also extremely affordable for silk too.

This time, I picked out this Silk Racerback Trapeze Dress in a Mulberry colour, in the same kind of silk fabric.

I chose the Size XS, and I’m usually a Size AUS/US 6.

Grana Silk Racerback Dress

My first worry about big, shapeless, flowy dresses is always: does this dress make me look fat???

Haha. Well don’t know about that, but it does fit me very well on top and it hides my waist, tummy, bottom and most of my thighs under that flowy skirt.

Grana Silk Racerback Dress

OK actually my real concern for shapeless dresses is: how does it fit at my chest and under my arms?

Usually when I try on spaghetti strap dresses, the shoulder straps are always soooo long that the dress sits awkwardly low on my chest and I show too much cleavage. Or my bra peeks out at places. Not with this dress!

The fitting is just right for my petite frame.

And because it fit so well on top, I felt really confident to move around in it. I didn’t have to worry or fuss around in the dress – is my skirt riding up? Is it clinging to my butt? Did I eat too much, is my tummy sticking out? And other silly dress worries.

I just felt really relaxed and comfortable in it.

Grana Silk Racerback Dress

Again, the area under my arms fits me just right and you can’t see my strapless bra.

mirrorGrana Silk Racerback Dress_445

The back of the dress is a racerback style – it’s exactly the same style as my Tibi racerback top.

I like the back. It’s a bit different, and it shows off my shoulder blades?

OK, if I had to mention some negatives about this dress:

1) It’s SILK and such a pain in the ass to iron haha!! I have an iron with a “Silk” setting, but it doesn’t work very well. So I have to set my iron to ULTRA HIGH WITH STEAM setting and wave it over my garment bit by bit. It’s a bit dangerous (I could drop the iron on my garment and ruin it), plus it takes ages to get rid of the creases this way.

2) It’s a teeny-tiny bit long for what I like. I like my dresses to be short-ish, so that I show off a bit more leg. But that’s just my personal preference. Hmm, actually looking at the photo, the length is ok. It looks fine and classy.

3) It’s silk! And I have to dry clean it. So I’m a bit precious whenever I wear it.

4) It comes in 6 colours (Black, White, Navy, Grey, Olive and Mulberry) which is a good thing. But I would LOVE to have this dress in a Rose/Blush colour, and it’s not an option, booo.

Grana Silk Racerback Dress

Other positive things to point out about the dress…

The dress is actually double lined (two layers of silk) so the fabric hangs and drapes really nicely.

I decided to live a little and choose a vibrant colour, instead of a neutral colour, and I’m so glad I did!

It’s such a versatile style. You can wear it with heels, flats, sandals and sneakers. I actually wore it to a fashion show as a TOP, asymmetrically tucked into white pants, like this!

So there you have it; I think that’s about all I want to share about the dress.

My Conclusion: I love it and I can’t wait to wear it for summer!!

Aaaand, Grana sent me another dress to review, so that’s coming up soon.

TPFF 2016: Closing Night – The Art of Fashion

28 September 2016

The Perth Fashion Festival celebrated its closing night with an extraordinary and extravagant show – The Art of Fashion – held in the multi-storey foyer of the Art Gallery of WA, no less!

Featuring 22 WA Designers, a circular catwalk, a live orchestra ensemble, 2 opera performers, and a room filled with floral creations… it was a spectacular and bewildering feast for the senses.

Blush Dresses for a Summer Wedding

27 September 2016

I have a Garden Wedding to attend later this year (in summer) and I’m hunting for a blush / peach / pinky dress.

I totally love the drape and wrap style of these dresses. Feminine and sexy, I like how these are a bit different to the off-shoulder, body con dresses that everyone seems to be wearing to weddings these days.

But are they too casual wear to a wedding? A bit of bling, a pair of killer heels and a cool clutch — should work right?

Blush Dresses from Revolve

Niro Dress by MLM Label – I love this style! It looks so flattering, classy and versatile.

Wild and Free Romper by Blue Life – Ok this is actually a romper and looks a little casual for a wedding. But that colour is dreamy.

Love Happy Dress by Lovers and Friends – This dress is a little more elegant, even though the V neck is pretty deep. Again I love the drape.

Just a little heads up!

Revolve Clothing are offering Free 3 Day Express Shipping to Australia and to celebrate, they are giving away a 20% Off discount code.

To get the code, head over to this page, share with a friend, and you and your friend will receive the code in your inbox. Offer ends 3rd Oct, 11:59pm.

My Fashion Week Interrupted (By Camping on a Cow Farm)

26 September 2016

During my week of fashion shows, I took 24 hours off to go camping with my family!

The plan was to stay on a cow farm.

With a forecast of thunderstorms, rain and an overnight temperature of 3 degrees.

How did I manage to be convinced of this???

Haha well, we had already committed to it.

Plus we were going to stay at a friend’s farm and join 10 (maybe 12) other families and couples.

We didn’t want to miss out!

Camping in Harvery

It turned out that the whole experience was pretty luxurious…

(Except the bit where I had to sleep in a tent, in a thunderstorm.)

THE VIEW was amazing!!

We were up high in the landscape; and even though we were 20kms inland, we could see the sun setting over the glittering ocean. It was so pretty.

Our friends also had a lovely farm house, with a big fireplace. They had meats roasting on a spit. Lots of room for the kids to play. They had working toilets, hot showers and hey, they even had a dishwasher. Life was good.

Camping in Harvery

The next morning, we had gorgeous sunshine.

The fields sparkled with bright flowers and juicy grass.

The hills were alive with the sounds of mooing cows.

Camping in Harvery

We headed off for a walk to see the cows and horses.

Now that’s a sight I won’t forget. A bunch of happy horses surrounded by happy children, surrounded by a field of yellow daisies, surrounded by a forest of eucalyptus trees.

Camping in Harvery

The whole 24 hours was just magical.

It certainly was a huge change of scene for me.

Really want to thank our friends G & S for the kind invitation. (Also want to thank my husband for setting up and taking down our tents, and packing and unpacking the car.)

After lunch we headed home.

And what did I do? I washed my hair, dolled myself up, wolfed down some dinner and I drove off to my last 2 fashion shows for the year – haha!

Shoes Vs Pokemon Craft

25 September 2016

Shoes Vs Pokemon Go

Ahhh this last week, my head has been exploding with fashion, fashion, fashion!

My desk, dinner table, coffee tables, dressing tables and chairs… are all heaped up and spilling over with my fashion crap haha!

So it was with much delight that I spotted my son’s latest craft work and added it to my flatlay.

You see, my youngest son has been REALLY NAUGHTY lately. And the other day, he did such an insane thing – he jumped with TWO feet on the family iPad screen, while looking at me with a smile. WHY? I have no idea. But I banned him from the iPad for 4 weeks.

(It pained ME more than him. But really, I should have just thrown the iPad in the bin.)

The upshot was that he rediscovered his love for craft.

(A bit sad right?)

Anyway, he made little POKEMON GO characters out of toilet rolls – Squirtle, Zubat and Charmander.

OMG they were so cute.

Do they make you want to say, “Awwwwww. What a gorgeous, clever, creative kid you are! Ok you can have your iPad back!”

Nope. It didn’t work for me either. He’s still got 3 more weeks to go.

As for my corner of the flatlay: Cadey Lee Heels by Schutz, Tassel Earrings by Mezi, and THE MOST AMAZING salt water spritz thing for my hair.

It’s called Original Mineral Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray (from Sephora). It’s been around for ages, everybody raved about it years ago, it’s been elevated to cult status for many years and I only started to use it properly this week haha!

I curl my hair, spray it on my fresh curls, then I mess it all up — and I suddenly look like a movie star!! It’s freaking amazing!! I might do a dedicated blog post just for this spray!

Obsessed with Blue Lace Dresses!

24 September 2016

You know that thing that happens when you buy a car – you choose a colour thinking that no one else has that colour… then for the next 3 years, all you seem to see on the road is everybody driving THE SAME CAR MODEL IN THE SAME COLOUR AS YOU?!

Anyway a similar thing is happening to me.

Ever since buying that blue Lover dress that I wrote about here, all I can see are OTHER GORGEOUS BLUE LACE DRESSES!

So here’s number one on my wish list right now:

Obsessed with Blue Laces Dresses

Left: Self Portrait Strappy Lace Dress. Oh my this dress is exquisite! And unique! And beautiful! I am completely smitten! Love the lines, the silhouette, the sheer panels, the contrasting stripes, the flare skirt, the lace – all of it.

Right: Next is the Self Portrait Azalea Dress, in Navy. This is a popular style, re-done by quite a few other brands, but I’ve never seen it in this kind of dark blue before. I love the style of the bodice, skirt and the lace is just lovely.

Obsessed with Blue Laces Dresses

Left: Diane von Furstenberg Zarita Lace Dress. Yes I’ve been considering this dress for a while now. Love the classic design, the flattering shape, the elegant high neck and the 3/4 sheer lace sleeves.

And lastly, this Lovers + Friends Bellini Dress, which is a little more affordable than the others. I really like the contrast between the flower lace and the geometric lace. Again I’m loving that sweetheart V neckline.

Hmm I might have to sell my Lover dress in order to afford these dresses… so they might have to sit in my wish list for a little while longer! Oh well!

Nude Heels by Stuart Weitzman

23 September 2016

Fashion Festival Favourites

A few years ago, I bought these ASOS Pointed-Toe Nude Heels (which were non-leather) because they looked gorgeous. Since then, they have definitely been a timeless staple to my wardrobe.

However, they are a teeny, tiny bit big for me (even though I slip in a cushioned sole insert). So I have to admit that when I walk in them… I take smallish steps and I walk in a slightly careful way. I don’t have a confident stride.

Thus I have been very keen to upgrade to a leather version of this shoe. And to get one that actually fits me properly.

I was thinking of getting this Patent Leather Nude Heels by Tony Bianco. Or these Nude Patent Leather Heels from ASOS.

However, I received a giftcard from Shopbop and spotted these beauties on sale (still on sale too!) – Stuart Weitzman Pumps Daisy 90mm in Light Camel.

I really liked the fact the shoe had a 90mm heel. I think that a 100mm heel is a “high heel standard” these days. But 90mm heels still look fantastic, they are a more comfortable height and you can wear them for longer periods of time.

In terms of sizing… it was pretty risky. I didn’t know anything about Stuart Weitzman sizing… so I had to guess and hope. Turns out the sizing was PERFECT. No need for a shoe insert. I’m super happy!!

In terms of colour… the site makes it look quite yellow/sand colour, which is nice. However, it turns out the colour is perfectly between a pinkish nude and a beige nude. Really, really pretty in real life.

I love that Stuart Weitzman offers a range of “nudes heels”. This Daisy style (90mm heels) comes in a dark tan, tan, pale cream, and pinky blush too.

Best of all, I like the classic, polished, sophisticated style of the shoe… I can wear them with dresses or jeans.

What I Wore: Fashion Festival Opening Night

22 September 2016

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival 2016 - What I Wore

Ah… the season of fashion weeks comes around so quickly!

(First with New York Fashion Week earlier this month, then London, Milan and then Paris.)

While I don’t go to International Shows, I love supporting my local fashion industry. I know so many designers, photographers, stylists, creatives, models, event organisers and more – who all work so hard doing what they love – I always feel super proud for them during this time of year.

Anyway, I try to make an effort to go to the local events. Every year, I have so many good intentions to arrange with local boutiques to borrow a dress or clutch, to proudly showcase some WA labels and independent boutiques. But it was not to be.

I’ve been really busy with my work and I genuinely feel quite bad I missed the opportunity.

(Yes, I know I don’t actually have to wait for the Perth Fashion Festival in order to showcase my local favourites, so consider this a promise to start doing just that!)

In terms of my outfits, I had to fall back on stuff from my wardrobe. I have absolutely no problems with wearing the same item twice!

Lover Dress

This is what I put together.

I’m wearing my gorgeous Lover Dress (which I bought on sale here). I wore this dress earlier in the year for a wedding in Bali, and I might wear it to a ball event later in the year… so I consider it money well spent!

Diavolina nude, stud heels (bought from here).

Mezi tassel gold earrings (no longer on sale).

Whistles Faux Fur Clutch (bought from here, no longer on sale).

I have a few more outfits coming up, so do pop back to take a peek!

TPFF 2016: Opening Night

21 September 2016

I’m first to declare that I’m not a fashion writer. I’m a kind-of fashion spectator, with a background in art and design, who likes to write from a very personal point of view.

Yes, I love theatre and visual art productions, which is why I love going to fashion shows – but let’s be honest, I’m really a fashion consumer who loves personal style and a shit load of shopping!

So I was very humbled to discover that I was invited to the Opening Launch of this year’s Telstra Perth Fashion Festival.

(The festival has been growing by leaps and bounds over the years, and I heard that tickets were quite hard to get!)

Thus I’m determined to draw out a slightly different view of the fashion festival for those who are interested.

Teltra Perth Fashion Festival 2016 - Opening Night

Firstly, let’s step aside from all the glitz, glamour and cray-cray pea-cocking… let’s talk about the production.

Very rarely do I get swept up and immersed into a fashion show. Virtual reality is all the buzz right now, and while we didn’t exactly see 3D projections and Tron landscapes… there was a very strong, visual nod towards it.

It was the combination of dark, DARK lighting, the delicious head thumping music, the blackened mirrored catwalk, the dramatic spotlights, and a mesmerising, floor-to-ceiling display of kaleidoscope ariel video… of the Australian outback reflecting off the catwalk.

It was superb!

The audience was treated to collections by a selection of Australian designers making waves in the international and national scene – Dion Lee, Bianca Spender, Flannel, Romance Was Born and Zhivago.

Silk Shirt Review: Equipment vs Grana

19 September 2016

Before I had an Equipment silk shirt, I desperately wanted to know what was the quality like, what did it feel like, and most importantly… why did it cost so much?

So I bought a near-new Equipment Signature Blouse (in Natural White, XS) and I completely fell in love with it. After that I bought an Equipment SLIM Signature Blouse (in Nude, XS).

Lately, I’ve been looking for more affordable silk pieces for my wardrobe and I came across Grana.

I bought TWO tops and a few weeks ago, I wrote an honest review on my blog about how I loved one and  disliked the other.

I returned the top I disliked, and with that refund, I bought a long-sleeve button down shirt.

Now I was keen to do a head-to-head comparison of my Equipment Silk Shirt vs Grana Silk Shirt!

This post isn’t sponsored or paid by Grana at all, soooo I guess can be totally honest and say things like wow this is shit! Haha only kidding. However I do have a 10% discount code for all new customers at the end of my post.

Equipment Silk Shirt Vs Grana Silk Shirt

This black top is the Grana Silk Classic Shirt (AUD$71) in Black, Size XS.

Equipment Silk Shirt Vs Grana Silk Shirt

This is the Equipment SLIM Signature Blouse (AUD$348) in Nude, Size XS.

Style comparison.

The Equipment shirt has pockets at the front and exposed buttons, which gives the shirt a casual look.

The Grana shirt has NO chest pockets and it has a flap that covers the buttons, so the front of the shirt looks very minimal and sleek. I’d say it has a more “polished, smart and formal” look, and would work well with office attire, smart outfits, or evening outfits.

I’d honestly say that I wouldn’t wear this Grana style (even in a different colour) with denim shorts, because the shirt just doesn’t look casual enough! But that’s just me. I’m sure other people would enjoy the juxtaposition.

The Grana shirt is slightly shorter.

The cuffs and collar of the two shirts are pretty much exactly the same.

The “slim-ness” of the two shirts are pretty much exactly the same too. I really like this slim size and think it fits me really well. It’s not too loose, not too baggy, not too fitted or tight either  – both are peeeerfect!

Silk comparison.

The Equipment silk is lighter and a tiny bit thinner. The silk feels lovely and soft, yet strong and smooth… and there’s even a slight slippery feel to it. Yet at the same time, there’s a very, very slight velvety texture that sets it apart from silk you buy from high street brands.

The Grana silk is slightly heavier and it has more of a velvety and furry texture to it. The velvety texture gives it a nice softness, which makes it drape very luxuriously. According to the website, it is called Grana’s “100% silk Crepe de Chine” and it used for most of Grana’s silk items.

The velvety texture also gives it a kind of velvety shine, so the black doesn’t look like a pure, dark, black. You know how velvet changes tone when you swipe it up or down? There’s a subtle hint of that effect with this shirt.

The Grana silk feels delicate and luxurious, however the 3 times I wore it, it did tend to build up a slight static and stuck to my body.

The Equipment shirt feels light, soft, luxurious and there’s no hint of static.

Equipment Silk Shirt Vs Grana Silk Shirt

Conclusion.

If I had to CHOOSE ONE, I would choose the Equipment shirt.

I’m sure most of my decision is an emotional one, based on my perceived value from its big price tag, my years of stalking after the brand and the cult following around the brand. However, I do like the casual look of the pockets and buttons more and I prefer the less-velvety silk.

However having said that, there’s actually nothing wrong with the Grana silk.

It’s different and it’s BEAUTIFUL!!

This Grana silk shirt is absolutely amazing value for AUD$71. I am super-duper happy with it, it feels gorgeous on my skin, I’m planning to buy a few more simple tank tops in different colours (hello, at $42 each???)

Fitness Update: Mixing Running and Yoga

17 September 2016

Road Running

Yippee! After a long break, I think I can officially say that I’m back into my running groove.

For the last few weeks, I’ve been going for a 5km run in the middle of the week and a 10km run on the weekend.

At the back of my mind, I’m keen to reach a regular distance of 15km, and possibly run a 21km distance soon.

But I’m also discovering that… running for me is not about distance anymore. It’s about how I feel.

During my long runs, just for a bit of fun, I like to stop somewhere nice (next to the river, on a hill, under a tree, over-looking the beach) and do a slow yoga stretch routine.

Gosh, it’s so much fun!

Haha it might look a bit silly and it might ruin up my running time; but I do it because I just love it from the tips of my fingers down to the soles of my feet.

It makes me feel amazing and that’s enough of a reason to have a terrible running time!

Shoes Vs Robots

15 September 2016

Robot and Shoes

I was laying out a few of my favourite things, getting them ready for me to wear: My Tory Burch Purse, my Charlotte Olympia Card Holder, my Chanel nail colour and my Tony Bianco Laced Shoes.

I walked into my dining room and saw my son’s robot, with its black wires dangling out, looking a bit like my black laced shoes.

I had a moment of amusement, thinking: My fashion items DEFINITELY do not represent the fullness and rich, variety of my life!

I picked up his robot, pushed my shoes aside and made some room on my board.

The result gave me a satisfied smile.

My son has been tinkering with our Lego Mindstorms robotics kit for a while and he is currently working on a “Rubix Cube Solver” in his spare time.

He has plastic tubs everywhere, overflowing with lego; sometimes they all take over the whole dining room.

It’s messy, chaotic, it drives me crazy, but ah, deep down I love it!

What I’m Wearing: The Flat Mule

14 September 2016

Flat Mules

There is a strong trend towards mules in this new fashion season.

Years ago, I had sooooo many mule-styled shoes. Pointed toe kitten heels, single strap square toe, suede + wooden clog heels and more.

I definitely have a soft spot for them. Especially when they are so easy to wear during summer.

But this time around, I’m not planning to buy any “investment mules”. I’m just planning to play  around with cool shapes and texture variations.

I’m not into the fur-lined mules. Or ones with big buckles. But I was willing to give this pointed, patent mule a go.

Turns out I absolutely love it! The minute the sun is out, I’ve slipped on these babies and I feel awesome.

This pair are ASOS Pointed Flat Mules, and I’m also wearing black Culottes by Hello Parry.

Holiday in Scotland – Standing Stones

12 September 2016

Holiday in Scotland 2016 - Standing Stone

When we were visiting Scotland, our family did quite a few walks and hikes. We climbed up mountains and cliffs, went to look for castles and waterfalls, we walked by the lochs and old ruins.

We also went looking for standing stones and stone circles!

Holiday in Scotland 2016 - Standing Stone

These were not particularly famous standing stones in Scotland. We just went to look at them because they were marked on a tourist map, near to where we were staying.

In all honesty, they were a bit underwhelming.

They weren’t perched on a cliff. They weren’t on top of a hill. They weren’t surrounded by a pretty forest. There was no information board explaining the history of the stones.

They just looked like some medium-sized rocks in a farmer’s sheep paddock.

(Maybe the local sheep farmer used a bulldozer to make a circle of rocks to attract tourist like us??)

They weren’t exactly the best example of stone circles for our kids to see.

NONETHELESS, we discussed their possible age, mythology, history and local folklore around the stones – and if we used our imagination, it was kind of amazing to think what they could have meant and how long they could have been there.

Holiday in Scotland 2016 - Stone Circle

Now before I left for Scotland, a few of my girlfriends alerted me to the “Outlander Phenomenon”.

There is a book series called “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon, about a 20th century nurse who, while holidaying in Scotland, touches a standing stone and gets transported back in time to 18th century Scotland, where she meets a rugged Scottish hunk and falls in love. It’s a historical fiction / romance / adventure type novel – which I read in 2001!

What I didn’t know was… it was turned into a TV series and everyone is quick to describe it to me in five words: Sexy. Erotic. Hot, Scottish guys.

Apparently the tv series is rather sexy… and there’s a lot of sex in it.

And apparently it’s been SO popular, that you can now go on “Outlander Tours of Scotland”, see some of the Scottish Highland locations from the novel and you know, touch some erect, standing stones ha!

So what do you know, I was going to some of those places.

With all that in mind, (and not having seen the TV series), I sent some totally innocent photos of ME TOUCHING A STANDING STONE to my girlfriends, which made them hoot and snort with laughter.

Ah, what are girlfriends for?!

(No one seems to know the exact purpose or function of a standing stone, so if they ever find out and it’s something sacred, I do apologise for making light of the whole situation!)

I’m a little embarrassed by this. But not really :)

I think it’s hilarious (and incredibly silly) that we cleaned up our shed and found 24 pairs of gloves!?

It was like stumbling across the rip in the universe where all the odd socks go to die.

Ho ho ho.

Yes we do a lot of gardening and yard work.

Yes there are 5 people in our family.

And yes, most of them went straight into the bin after this photo.

Affordable Off Shoulder Dresses from Shein

8 September 2016

Affordable Off Shoulder Dresses from Shein

A few readers have asked me to suggest some affordable options for dresses… so here’s my recommendation!

Try some of these Off Shoulder Dresses from Shein.

I’ve bought a few things from Shein before, and honestly it’s been hit and miss. You have to really look at the photos and read the description carefully.

Thankfully these two dresses were great!

This dress is the Shirred Off Shoulder Floral Dress in Burgundy.

The top half of the dress is shirred, including the bust area, which I thought would be awful, but it doesn’t look that bad. It’s stretchy and comfy, wraps and sits nicely against your bra to show off your boobs.

The floral pattern also disguises the shirred-bit and it all looks fine.

The shirring stops just above the waist, so it gives the dress a “baby doll” or “empire cut” look. Which is nice because it hides the waist and tummy (hello hamburgers for lunch!) yet it still looks fitted and slimming, and you don’t have to worry about sucking in your tummy all day haha.

The double split panel in front was quite nice too, it makes the dress look extra summery.

Affordable Off Shoulder Dresses from Shein

It’s a really comfortable dress to wear! It’s a very casual, simple, throw on and walk to the beach kind of dress… or put on nice heels and wear to a summer backyard party.

This is the Size S and it fit me perfectly (I’m usually a size AUS/UK 6) – even in the length.

The fabric is a soft, printed kind of cotton. It handled a hot iron very well and didn’t crease easily after that.

Does it look cheap and nasty? Nope, it’s a summer dress, which looks casual, fun, high-street and affordable.

Affordable Off Shoulder Dresses from Shein

For the second dress, I picked out this Black Off Shoulder Tie Cuff Dress.

It’s VERY good value for AUS $20.

The fabric is a soft-to-touch rayon that looks like a kind of textured cheese-cloth. It’s light, floaty and a tiny bit see-through. It feels robust and strong and like I could wear it all day. It’s very comfortable.

Having said that, I haven’t washed it yet. But I did iron it and the fold creases came out easily.

I like the bow on the sleeves and the mini length. It is completely shapeless, so the focus is on your shoulders and legs.

I’m wearing the XS and the width of the shoulders were good – not too squeezey and not difficult to move in.

Again it’s a summer dress, so it’s good as a casual wear. Although I wore it with skinny jeans and tall boots one day and it looked great too.

Does it look cheap and nasty? I think because it’s black, it has a polished look to it. It looks casual and affordable, and definitely not nasty!

I guess if you’ve never tried an off shoulder dress, this is a good, safe dress to start.

And if you like it, you could look for a high quality replacement for the rest of spring / summer, as this off-shoulder trend will stick around until the start of next winter!

Happy shopping!!

Obsessed with Sneakers

6 September 2016

Adidas Flux, Nike Jordan Eclipse

(Me wearing Adidas ZX Flux, and my son wearing Nike Jordan Eclipse)

My boys and I share something in common – we’re crazy about sneakers.

It doesn’t help that their feet keep growing, so I HAVE to buy them FIVE PAIRS OF SHOES at a time *cries* : everyday sneakers for school, proper running sneakers, basketball sneakers, football boots and a pair of nice shoes for fancy events (ie. not sneakers).

I try to buy secondhand when I can, especially for football boots. But most times, I buy new on sale or from factory outlets. And I usually only buy new shoes after my boys have worn their shoes into the ground, and I can see their toes poking out of all the holes in the fabric.

Despite all that, feet grow and shoes need to be bought.

Unfortunately, these over-the-top SHOE BUYING SPREES are creating a culture of spend-happy, see-want-buy, money-grows-on-trees, instant-gratification attitude in my home, which I’m not too pleased about.

I feel obliged to teach them about…

“The difference between needs and wants”

“Not giving in to impulse and emotional decisions”

“Following trends vs. finding your own style”

“Practical vs. Appearance”

“Practicing delayed gratification”

“Work hard to save up for something worth saving for.”

But all those lessons and important life skills just FALL TO PIECES, because I currently have 6 pairs of running sneakers in my wardrobe, and I’m eyeing a new pair for summer. Hmm.

(Ok realistically, 2 are too old for running, so I use them for gardening and for bush hiking, another 1 is only good for walking as it’s a bit narrow at the toes for me, 1 is for the gym so I don’t like to get them muddy/dirty, and 2 are good for running, but 1 is starting to wear out a bit….. soooo I would like to have another one soon….)

And let’s not talk about ALL MY nice shoes for fancy events! Ha!

Oh well, I definitely can’t win this one.

What I Wore: Tibi Silk Top

5 September 2016

Tibi Silk Top

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently started a couple of new freelance jobs/projects… in the field of blogging, social media consulting + management, art direction, photography and styling.

It’s been absolutely fantastic – I’m doing something I enjoy, I’m doing something I’m good at, my time is flexible, I work from home, I’m learning heaps of new stuff and the money is pretty good!

I’m only working part time hours at the moment, which is how I prefer it and designed it.

(Meaning, I still have time for yoga and coffees with my girlfriends! Oh and cleaning and gardening.)

Anyway, I’ve been out and about a lot and taking lots of snaps of my outfits.

Tibi Silk Top

I’m mixing a few old and new items here!

Tibi Silk Racerback Camisole – This is an absolutely beautiful silk top and such a perfect cut for my body shape. It’s not too low at the chest or underarms, and it’s a nice length for me. Yes, a bit expensive, but if you add it to your cart, you could snap it up cheaper when the next sale comes around?!

Acne Studios Needle Jeans – This was an eBay buy many years ago, from a lovely, short girl who already altered the length of the legs!

ASOS Pointed Flat Mules – I didn’t want to invest in a pair of flat leather mules, because I thought they looked weird – even though I had about 3 of these many years ago! So I bought this pair for $40 and they are soooo cool and fun to wear, that I have been wearing them everywhere!! I might not even have to buy a leather version, because these are so awesome as they are :)

Country Road Grey Cardigan – This cardigan is many seasons old. It has two moth holes in it (haha!), but it’s still super soft, no pilling, and simply beautiful to wear.

Celine Baby Audrey Sunglasses – These were a gift, but I do believe they are really well priced here.

That’s all from me for today, hope you have a gorgeous week!

Hot Yoga

1 September 2016

Hot Yoga

I’ve been doing HOT YOGA for a few weeks now and I can finally say that I really like it!

I hated it at first.

I found it disgusting (soooo much sweat every where! My sweat and other people’s sweat! SO MANY SWEATY PEOPLE!!! Eeeeeeewwww!!)

I found it hard to breath, hard to focus, and therefore hard to balance. It made me feel very irritated.

But I stuck at it, learned how to cope, learned how to get on with it… and now I like it.

I won’t say that I LOVE IT… because I don’t feel it gives me that spiritual / harmonious / deep energy lift that I usually get from yoga.

After hot yoga, I feel like I’ve had a swim and a full-body workout. It gives my whole body a delicious glow and a great stretch… I like that!

It’s absolutely lovely to do on a cold winter’s day, but once summer kicks in, I can’t imagine doing it during the hot weather?!

We shall see!
