The Sweater and Pencil Skirt Formula

7 April 2015

Pencil Skirt and Sweater

Let me tell you what I’m big on at the moment… the good old formula: Sweater + Pencil Skirt!

I’m a little excited that the change in weather means it’s now sweater season!

This pairing makes life so much easier when I’m trying to race out the door.

Yesterday I dragged out a whole bunch of sweaters and realised that moths had eaten through 2 of my best sweaters, sigh.

Here are some tips if you’re thinking about buying yourself a new sweater.

1. Over-sized and baggy knits are very “in” at the moment. If you’re a size S, you’re supposed to buy a size M, or even size L if you dare. But I’m not such a big fan of over-lengthened sweater sleeves. I prefer to just wear a sweater with a loose shape, in my size. But whatever floats your boat!

2. A sweater in a neutral colour (black, white, grey or beige) will obviously match more skirts in your wardrobe and therefore guarantee that you’ll wear it for 3-4 seasons. Just keep that in mind when you’re about to buy a very “on trend” colour like forest green, maroon or camel.

3. Knit is important. I love fine wools and cashmere, but realistically I can’t afford to buy luxurious, high quality knits all the time. I find that knit blends with a bit of cashmere still feel lovely against my neck and arms.

4. Get yourself a lint shaver to get rid of any fuzz or pill that might build up on high contact areas. Do a search on ebay and I promise you’ll find one that costs $5 and ships from Hong Kong. It’ll bring new life to your old knits!
