The Multi-Way Bridesmaid Dress

30 November 2014

Today I’m featuring and road testings a Multi Way Convertible Maxi Dress, in an aqua green.

Multi-way dresses are not a new concept; they’ve been around for a while. The idea is that you can wear one dress in many different ways to create slightly different looks.

This multi-way dress is from FashionJunkee and is one of their best sellers as a bridesmaid dress.

Using it as a bridesmaids dress means you could buy 6 multi-way dresses for your 6 bridesmaids and each can have a slightly different looking dress, but they will all look matchy matchy. It’s a fun idea and it looks really pretty in the wedding photos! Plus it saves you the headache of trying to find a matching dress style that suits all 6 of your bridesmaids.

Anyway, here’s my run down.

I’m wearing it here in a Halter Neck Style and a Cross Neck Style.

These two styles were very comfortable to wear. The dress and straps didn’t feel like they were going to fall off. It sat firm against my body.

The fabric is a jersey made from rayon and spandex. It is soft, strong and has a good stretch to it. It was thick enough so it didn’t cling to my body and show off my panty line. It was also heavy enough to hang off my waist and hips very nicely.

However, when I pulled it out of the box, the skirt fabric had some creases in it, so I did have to iron it… and there was a LOT of fabric to iron! But I found that once I ironed it, as long as I wore it or hung it up, I didn’t have to iron it again.

Because of the large amount of fabric, the dress had a good weight to it, so it felt like a quality garment as I walked around. Plus the weight of the fabric kept the creases away. Obviously this dress was too long for me and I would need to get it altered to fit my height.

And this is the style of the back, for both the halter and cross-neck style. I think I could have been a bit more creative and twisted the fabric at the back to give a more braided look.

As you can see, my back was mostly bare, so I had to wear an adhesive bra.

The left over fabric just ties at the back and becomes a long ribbon type thing that trailed behind me as I walked. It didn’t bother me. It wasn’t heavy or uncomfortable. And it made me a little relieved that IF my panty line was showing, the swishy ribbon thing would block the view of my butt and it wouldn’t be so obvious!

This was another design looked good that felt very comfortable to wear. I twisted the shoulder straps which gave the dress a very Grecian feel. But again, the back of the dress was completely backless.

I thought this strapless look would look lovely, but I just couldn’t get it to work for me.

I wrapped it up, and then I discovered that I had done it up too tight (I found it hard to breathe!), and the folds didn’t look very nice.

So I loosened it up and did it again, but it still looked a bit messy. I couldn’t seem to make it look nice… so I found this page where you can check out how the pros wrap this Multi Way Dress in 9 ways. Looks much better there!

This cap sleeve design and this one shoulder design looked great too!

In conclusion, it’s a really nice gown for its price.

1) The fabric makes it a more affordable bridesmaids dress. You can get very similar designs made from more luxurious fabrics for $300+. This one is much, much more affordable at US$65. And that is a pretty significant factor especially if you have to buy 6 dresses, which will – potentially – be worn only once.

2) I was a bridesmaid for my sister’s wedding earlier this year and I wore a bridesmaids dress from 7am in the morning till 11pm at night, non-stop. So I have to be honest and say I don’t know if I could go 16 hours STRAIGHT wearing this dress with an adhesive bra. The dress isn’t the issue; it’s the bra. If I wanted to wear this dress all day, I could go 3-4 hours in an adhesive bra. Then I would need a rest and maybe have a shower. Then I could go for another 3-4 hours for the evening. But that’s just me! I’m not sure how it is for you girls with larger boobs :)

Check out the Multi Way dress in other colours, or other pretty maxi dresses (that are super affordable) in pastel colours.
