Love it or hate it, the fashion cycle keeps going round and round!
At the most recent New York Fashion Week, we saw a return of flares! It’s still early days, but it got me really excited, because I have a few pairs of flares that I have stored away very carefully. And it’s always so exciting to bring out old treasures and let them see a bit of sunshine.
First up, I have a pair of high waisted Topshop flares (pictured above), which are quite long – too long really – so that I have to wear a pair of really high platform heels with them. They make my legs look super long and I feel like a leggy giraffe in them! Looks cool, but not very practical.
These were my absolute favourite jeans in the WORLD at one point in time! They were so comfy and felt amazing. I wore them everywhere! They are GRIPP jeans (remember them?), which I bought for $180, some time ago (uh, some time in the late 1990s?). I remember slipping them on one my legs one day and thinking, “I can’t possibly imagine the day when these go out of fashion. It will be a sad, sad day. What would be next, slim jeans? Ugh how ghastly!”
They cost me so much, that I couldn’t bear to throw them out or give them away. So I just stored them in hopes that they will come back into fashion haha!
I had the jeans taken up so I could wear them with flat shoes. I’m actually looking forward to wearing them out.
This similar pair are also from the late 1990s too, by Miss Sixty.
They had even more of a flare and I would wear them with ballet flats and thought nothing of the swishy excess of fabric flapping around my ankles! Kind of like a very long skirt.
The big question is, does this return of flares inspire you (like it does for me) or make you CRINGE?!
AND, can you imagine that in 5-10 years time, we’ll be packing away our skinny jeans because they’ll be SO out of fashion!
