Well Deserved.

15 September 2006

So. In a bizarre coincidence yet completely independent circumstances, my father in law received a Medal of the Order of Australia! A medal! For 3 decades of his services in medicine and clinical education in rural WA. It was announced on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, back in June. But the ceremony was today.

So. In true dejavu form, my husband and I turn up at the Government House Ballroom and watch the same ceremony and proceedings, with the same presenters, speakers, ushers, singer and band conductors doing their thing. I kept walking past people and having to do a double take.

Do I know you? I’ve seen you before? You’ve still got that limp? Don’t you wear glasses? You have the same eyes as my doctor! Hang on, I had that thought the last time I saw you! But I’ve never seen you in my life! I’m going crazy! It was so strange to discover how much shite my brain could absorb.

And just to spook everyone out (or prove how lame I am), I thought I’d take advantage of a photo opportunity in the Ladies “Powder Room” at Government House.

(Two seconds after taking this picture, someone walked into the room and almost knocked me over with the door. Ugh.)
