A Girly Party
2 September 2006We went to another kid’s party today - this time it was my niece’s 4th birthday. It was excellent, but sheesh. It was SO GIRLY! Everything was pink, glittery and starry. Girls were dressed as fairies, swishing and swaying. Skipping and prancing. Admiring themselves in mirrors and giggling away like chipmunks.
I couldn’t stand all the GIRLINESS. It was so icky! I felt like I needed to wash. I can see where the idea of cooties came about! Haha OK I’ve been hanging around my boys too much. I’m sure I’d be singing a different tune if I had girls.
Now I always enjoy some hearty piñata bashing, but I can never understand why parents choose the ones shaped as cartoon heros. Traditionally the piñata is a seven-pointed star, representing evil. And hitting it with a stick makes the evil go away.
Anyway, we bashed a fairy. I wanted to post the ‘after’ photo - the one where the fairy’s decapitated head is hanging on the rope with its paper spinal cord swaying in the wind. The stuff real childhood memories are made of.
This is Callum, moments after the fairy’s entrails were sprayed across the lawn. The kids went wild. It was lollies galore!
Sean spent most of the afternoon in the sand pit. At one point he was bullied by a bigger kid. I curiously watched from afar. Although Sean puffed out his chest and stood his ground, I was surprised he didn’t thump the kid - like he always does with his big brother.
