day of week

14 January 2006

The other day, I went for a walk in the park with the kids. Nothing remarkable. Just a walk. It was the end of a long day. The sun was setting, the evening was cool. And I really wanted some moments for quiet brain activity.

However. Half way through the walk, Callum decided that he wanted to pick a leaf from EVERY DIFFERENT TREE we walked past. At first it was really irritating. Especially because we stopped after every 3 steps. And then I had to do the leaf picking. Then, he changed the “rules” to include flowers. So we had to back track and pick the flowers we missed. Then it went on to include twigs… then nuts. Gaaah. All I wanted to do was walk.

When I finally had enough, I peered into the bottom of the pram basket. His botanical collection was beautiful! It was inspiring! I giggled with delight. I promised Callum that when we got home, he could arrange it on our outdoor coffee table and take a picture of it with the digital camera. For the whole walk back, he was so excited that he forgot to pick up anything else!
